Life of Kings

I wrote this song many years ago. I never published it with my EP or later as a single. The recent comments by a New York Times reporter regarding Obama’s birthday crowd being ‘sophisticated and vaccinated’ reminded me of some of the elitist lyrics. When I first imagined the song, I wanted it to have the energy of a big musical number set to Mozart-style chamber music. Had I had the production dollars, I would’ve put out the song in order to have an excuse for the music video; of course, I have it storyboarded already. My revived writing dedication has spilled over into music again, and I would very much like to go back in the studio: finish incomplete … Read More

Sleep, Perchance to Dream

I love sleep. It is my favorite pastime, the favorite part of my day and best part of my diet, the secret to recovery and longevity. Ask any model what she does before a shoot or a runway show, every single one will say drink lots of water and sleep, even before working out. As much as I love it, I don’t do it well, such as why I am also a big proponent of power naps. Back in 1995 NASA did a study on the perfect nap time duration. They could’ve called to ask me; i’ve known since I was 8, it’s about 25 minutes. I’m so sensitive to external stimuli, all conditions have to be pretty perfect for a … Read More

Instead of the usual social media moniker of flashing back, this is a rounding-up of where my mind has been: After hinting at my work life in the last post, if you are a freelancer this post will read painfully true. The Pay is Not Commiserate With the Work (my own summation of the title) When I had a food-dessert biz, I knew the baseline rate to charge was 3 times the ingredients cost. There are so many variables to consider, only one is time. I have not put any money in savings this entire past year and this fact weighs on me heavily. I’m not getting younger and the world is becoming more divisive and competitive. I am definitely … Read More

This Little Light of Mine

BrockaArt, Music, RelationshipsLeave a Comment

…let it shine, let it shine. Made it to the end of the week. I had insomnia every.single.night. this past week! I do not recommend it; it kinda makes you hate things, and people, and light. I woke this morning and promised myself if I made it through my entire to-do list, I would treat myself to a glass of champagne. I write this post from the other side of halfway through the second. Throw a girl a bone. I am always honest. There are a lot of things i dislike in my mind, but on the other side of having accomplished them, I’m excited. I try to remind myself of this when I start over-thinking. Like writing this blogpost, … Read More

Task

BrockaMood Room, Technology, WorkLeave a Comment

I have been called out. I am not good at reading directions; I never have been. I rush -I scan – I assume. I do not pace. I do not slow and study. I am not slow and steady. This, I am not.   I didn’t accomplish the task correctly. I’ve rarely been known to do so perfectly. I am humbled that it has been enough -to suffice -to survive -to have gotten this far. I’ve done it my way I feel ahead of this -above it -beyond it I am not. Why am I spending time? -the worst fault of mine.   -To return -to recover -to cover up More costly, more exhausting Stop Be slow, be calm Understand … Read More
