Good is Good

Last week, the cold tried to hurt my face. There’s a walkway I cross in the morning between the parking garage and my office building; for these 10 seconds I hate everything! I am grateful to live in Dallas, where we are now back to a few days of reprieve, of 50 or 61* F to gather some fortitude before the next very temporary cold spell. We survive with understanding ‘this too shall pass.’ I bought a balloon, but in yesterday’s warmth and distracted passenger conversation, I opened up the sunroof while driving and it flew away. Didn’t even think! Maybe someone else somewhere else needed to be told to GET WELL I also pulled over and got out, without needing to … Read More

I’ve been slammed all week, crashing by 9:30 pm. Was asleep by 8 last night, no joke! Throwing this review up with much more on my mind honestly. Will rewind this week and speak on other things shortly. Just really loved last weekend’s trip and want to properly acknowledge it. When I leave town, or my context or my usual routine of information absorption, I see how easy it is to be oblivious about the world. How much of the world functions without a general idea of what’s going on. The basics; people being basic. There are so many things we can compartmentalize or flamingo. Head in the sand. I haven’t properly journaled in almost two weeks. If you aren’t journaling, it’s … Read More

Hi. Say it like it is, don’t beat around the bush. A longer read can be a deterrent within our clickbait culture. Haven’t you noticed the trend in adding [how many minutes this takes to read] under article titles or bylines of stories and journalism; as if everyone’s time is so fucking precious…give me a break. I’ve always seen it as a challenge. You don’t know me or how quickly I read. Aside from this, I’ve personally lost a lot of faith in journalism. It often comes across as deliberately destructive or sensational. Just as more money doesn’t determine class: better words don’t necessarily make a better point. Attention is not the same as focus. #BrockaQuote Often when a point … Read More

Friday Flashes

Instead of the usual social media moniker of flashing back, this is a rounding-up of where my mind has been: After hinting at my work life in the last post, if you are a freelancer this post will read painfully true. The Pay is Not Commiserate With the Work (my own summation of the title) When I had a food-dessert biz, I knew the baseline rate to charge was 3 times the ingredients cost. There are so many variables to consider, only one is time. I have not put any money in savings this entire past year and this fact weighs on me heavily. I’m not getting younger and the world is becoming more divisive and competitive. I am definitely … Read More

Leaves of Grass

Leaves of grass: Individual pieces yet also a part of the bigger picture. Individual politics, yet a part of the same consequence. Individual perspectives, yet sharing the same space and time. I’ve been reflecting on how the quantity of writing I do is not fairly balanced with how much I share, as far as the music goes. I have come to terms with the financial impracticalities of producing all the songs. So, over the last month I’ve been separating the prose into two categories: poems or music. Expressing the poetry is a free outlet, whether in front of a crowd or on my music site. I have added a link on my music site to Poems and will be posting … Read More
