Strangers in Our Space

If you don’t follow me on twitter or facebook, you don’t know that my condo has been up for sell for just a week. Therefore, strangers with their agents/realtors have been strolling through and viewing. Firstly, a photographer came in to photograph each room before the listing could go up. Typically their time is booked a 1/2 hour out, just so they can stage the place better before shooting. I knew that wouldn’t be necessary, and it wasn’t. I’m not only a minimalist clean-freak, but the 5 second rule applies to my kitchen floors at least once a week. Nothing had to be moved, other than pulling some electronic cords out of walls. Within 36 hours, boom, back-to-back foot-traffic. I’ve … Read More

Leaves of grass: Individual pieces yet also a part of the bigger picture. Individual politics, yet a part of the same consequence. Individual perspectives, yet sharing the same space and time. I’ve been reflecting on how the quantity of writing I do is not fairly balanced with how much I share, as far as the music goes. I have come to terms with the financial impracticalities of producing all the songs. So, over the last month I’ve been separating the prose into two categories: poems or music. Expressing the poetry is a free outlet, whether in front of a crowd or on my music site. I have added a link on my music site to Poems and will be posting … Read More

Never Say Never

Preface: my first choice of title was ‘We Never Know Anyone’ I thought Nicki Minaj as a hip-hop, free form, fast-paced rapper. I saw/see her as overly made-up to the point of clownish, being colorful enough to stand out against the extremely point-driven Lady Gaga; or maybe the black girl version of Katy Perry. The truth is, I don’t listen to the radio or watch pop-culture news, or read ANY magazine. I have no fucking clue! I have perception. I have personal taste that streamlines me into specific decisions on any given day. I most randomly came across a very piano-string focused ballad of a Nicki Minaj song recently, and frankly, it rocks my world. This one observation has me … Read More

I wanted to acknowledge how appreciative I am for the birthday wishes and messages I received yesterday, from near, close and far off. I felt wrapped in a hug all day. I love various penmanship, too. Last week was a tough week for me personally, mainly because i was putting up resistance to changes I needed to make; yes, it’s often in our head. I’ve got to stick to my guns and chase my passions. Nothing is perfect the first time and I will re-do it till it’s right. I’m not patient with myself, either. One thing I wanted to share was how I am officially off coffee (12 days), at least till an upcoming trip to Portland, Oregon in … Read More

I’m having a moment. I need to get something off my chest. Yes, I may be taking something personally, but this is my blog and I can do that. And seeing as though I haven’t posted in almost a month, I might as well with enthusiasm. Just a little background: I put out an EP (6 songs) vs an LP (full album) almost a year ago. The same month I did so, I thought to myself “I will not be a starving artist.” and essentially got a full-time (at the time) job, almost the same week. I am not making excuses when i say that I didn’t have the time to hustle the music. I am being honest when I … Read More
