On Being Famous or Great

Most often these two themes do not correlate. For a while I have been wanting to note on this; the recent death of Michael Jackson sealed the deal. We rarely note significant authors or architects or politicians that Do make the world a better place. And ironically there will rarely to never be mention of some of the greatest minds, mentors or mothers walking the planet. To our own discredit, we have reached a point in society where we elevate numbers of people least deserving; they become famous mearly by name or one special circumstance, i.e Paris Hilton or the couple Jon and Kate or Perez Hilton. What sets Paris’s character apart? Are these child-bearers really great parents? Why is … Read More

Chess pies are a Southern specialty that has a simple filling of eggs, sugar, butter, and a small amount of cornmeal; some include vinegar. And WOW! thats a bunch of junk I didnt even use… except for the cornmeal. But I swear it looks, taste and bakes up just the same. My gram is proud;) “The origin of the name, Chess Pie, is uncertain, but there are plenty of guesses and a bit of folklore surrounding the name. The most probable explanation is that since the English lemon curd pie filling is very close to lemon chess pie, and they believe the word “chess” is an Americanization of the English word “cheese,” referring to curd pie. I found myself engrossed with one omnivore frenchman, a conscientious omnivore, a “frenchie” baker, and an alternative baker. The fast and delightful read was David Lebovitz’s “The Sweet Life in Paris”. I have taken his item-specific classes when he passed through Dallas on occasion, (i.e chocolate series and icecream making) so i was excited to get ahold of a more personal scoop on the man. He is very whimsical with ideas and … Read More

And a partial disclaimer… You may have been led here by the dessert’s site, but this is more the personal venue where i shall hope to incite “food for thought” along with providing my own insight. I will cover everything that i think has a real objective or purpose. I am a very transparent person, as you shall come to know; and I am very observant of my surroundings. These two bode well for reflection. Whether Im writing for my readers or writing for my mirror image, I am only trying to seek clarity of thought or the logic behind human behavior. That being said, I would rather have this poignancy than your agreement. Sometimes it is better to “agree … Read More
