The interwebs is a strange and interesting and kind of succubus of a place (from my perspective) but it is also expansive and phenomenal. It is really the infinite, the new solar system, the modern ‘what we can’t get our minds around’ literally. This is also how much it has to offer you. Reflect. You can utilize it to watch most anything from anywhere in the world or you can waste lots of time clicking on sensationalism. You can take free courses from Harvard or MIT, listen to intelligent debate via TED talks or casually view what someone from some other place, who doesn’t now you or care about you! wore to an awards show. How are you spending your … Read More

Madame Bovary is representative of a possible Highland Park woman in Dallas. If you don’t know the classic story by Gustave Flaubert: essentially a young lady cheats on her boring doctor husband. She jumps into another affair, it goes nowhere and she satisfies desires through material purchases and eventual debt. The first time I read it, I was at the tail-end of a relationship with a very well-read man. He was a bit questioning and suspicious of this book choice. He was intuitive of our demise. I will never forget the moment he walked past me, sitting on his worn, tan leather couch reading this book. He asked me what I was reading, I said, ‘oh this…classic I’ve never read … Read More

I’m having a moment. I need to get something off my chest. Yes, I may be taking something personally, but this is my blog and I can do that. And seeing as though I haven’t posted in almost a month, I might as well with enthusiasm. Just a little background: I put out an EP (6 songs) vs an LP (full album) almost a year ago. The same month I did so, I thought to myself “I will not be a starving artist.” and essentially got a full-time (at the time) job, almost the same week. I am not making excuses when i say that I didn’t have the time to hustle the music. I am being honest when I … Read More

Anyone who spends a reasonable amount of time around me begins to understand my two personalities. I can say one thing and turn around to do another. I will adamantly declare I don’t like a food, a place, or a person; then one day see myself eat it, go there, and be attracted to that personality quality I had assumed adhorrent. I can project the introverted, bookworm vibe then out-dance you at a club. I am both flakey and adaptable. It’s worth kicking myself every time I think I don’t want to go somewhere or do something, then i end up loving it and self-loathing over my initial doubt. Like having a 12 year old panic attack an hour before … Read More

Continuing on from the previous Secret Selves post…and then we WILL NOT visit this topic for a while, as my resolve and emotion has been made clear by the end of this post: I have a vintage black leather chaise lounge/fainting couch by the front window in my living room. My favorite repose is reclined on it at the end of the day enjoying a cocktail – by 5 pm, if I’m home that early. Last week I was in the usual: with the window blinds pulled up and the outside street-scape in full view. I live in a medium to moderately affluent neighborhood. I’m directly across the freeway from the very affluent SMU campus and Highland Park neighborhood of … Read More
