Not even halfway through January, thought i’d sound-in on the personal updates before I loose myself down other rabbit hole blogging topics.
What I’m Reading
Most of my reading comes by referral. I commented on social media recently how my reads would be on the lighter side this year. This in no way implies just fiction or casual investment of time. I just mean I’m not spending a significant amount of time on one history or biography of 300+ pages, taking up nearly 2 months! In this stack there is culture, history, practical applicable information, spiritualism ‘without the woo-woo’ –Tim Ferris, AND a Murakami. ‘I can’t believe I havent read this one!’ Murakami. Coming from a librarian nerd, don’t you love the real library cardslot on the cover.(a statement not a question) Adorable. I’m saving another Murakami called Birthday Stories for my actual birthday month this year, because I’m organized and O.C.D like that. (such as why I was referred to the Infovore book)
I am reading 3 of these simultaneously, over halfway through them. I didn’t like any of Kate Atkinson’s more current books AT.ALL. but many people who’ve expressed the same said her first, Behind the Scenes At the Museum is really great. I agree, close to done.
What’s Happening With My Music
I would love for you to head over to my music site when you have the moment Brocka Music and PLEASE contact me. Just put News in the body. I will add your email to the newsletter so you do stay up to date. All the images, styling, new songs, new videos are coming in early February. The NOW link will stay current, as weekly as possible.
Can I confess how much I don’t care for any of those pics of me, how that’s not really where I’m going or what I’m about. I know it’s obnoxious in this new age of feelings, but dammit most things are pointless -if the it or the circumstance *don’t feel right*. I can’t even tell you 100% that the 3 songs I’m about to put out are exactly *it* either, but that just means I am turning right around and back into the studio to keep making more; and I will until I hit upon the [most most most] true authentic sound that does resonate for me in such a way, I drop down on my knees and say thank you god. No hyperbole.

Ten questions for work that matters
What are you doing that’s difficult?
What are you doing that people believe only you can do?
Who are you connecting?
What do people say when they talk about you?
What are you afraid of?
What’s the scarce resource?
Who are you trying to change?
What does the change look like?
Would we miss your work if you stopped making it?
What do you stand for?
What contribution are you making?
Hints: Any question that’s difficult to answer deserves more thought. Any answers that are meandering, nuanced or complex are probably a symptom of something important.
